The News in Japanese is a set of practical listening comprehension texts for intermediate-level students of Japanese who wish to follow the broadcast news in Japanese. The book contains 40 chapters, arranged in order of difficulty, each focusing on a different news story. By completing the Study Tasks in each Section, students can become familiar with the structure and content of news stories.
The learners are given access to a wide range of topics with different perspectives and comprehension skills which can help them develop proximity to Japanese culture and society by studying the nature of Japanese media.
STRUCTURE
First, the main part of the textbook consists of 40 chapters, each containing 5 Study Tasks, which are exercises to help students gain insight and understanding into the stories. These tasks are designed to be completed by listening to the audio and noting the results achieved by answering the study questions.
The book's second part, the "Important News Expressions," is a list of the most frequently used expressions in the previous chapters.
Both the main text and the separate volume provide kana readings with all the kanji, and every task in the main textbook has an answer key, so the book is perfect for self-study.
